Antique Victorian Jubilee Jigsaw Double Sided Empire Map Monarchs Complete Box
A Victorian wooden jigsaw, issued for the Queen's Jubilee (presumably the Golden Jubilee of 1887). Titled on the box lid: The Royal Jubilee Map of the British Empire, with Atlas, Geography, English History and Portrait-Puzzle of the Kings and Queens of England. The jigsaw is double-sided, with the map on one side, and portraits of the Kings and Queens from William 1st onwards on the other. There is also a hand-written piece of paper listing the Kings and Queens, in a child's hand-writing. However, the important thing is that the jigsaw is complete, and in its original box which functions well. The map was published by W & AK Johnston. It shows some vagueness at the Poles - still an unexplored region. The colour of the Kings and Queens image is lovely and strong. This is a very scarce item - I can find no trace of it online. Size: the box measures 24cms x 19cms.
The outer ones slot together, the inner ones line up against each other. Condition: Box working well, but scuffed all round including lid. "Jig-saw Victoria" in ink on one side. Guide map very scruffy with loss and tape repairs.
Fragment left only of the guide to the Kings and Queens. Jigsaw a little scruffy as seen in the photos, but complete. Lovely colouring for the Monarchs. Please see my other items.
